Bad news- One of the highlights in the gig/festival calendar Speedfreaks Ball is cancelled due to poor ticket sales. Shame as I’d been to all of them and it was always very enjoyable.
The official statement reads…
I am sorry to announce that Speedfreaks 4 has had to be cancelled. Due to slow ticket sales there is no option but to cancel the event. The bank situation and economy has really hit home and the event receipts will fall short of the cost of staging the show by quite a large amount of money which would have put me out of business and possibly bankrupted me, even the late addition of Cock Sparrer to the bill hasn’t brought in enough extra ticket sales to cover the deficit. I left it as long as possible before making this difficult decision to see if there would be an upturn in the situation. But by cancelling the event and refunding ticket monies The Speedfreaks Ball will live to fight another day I would like to thank everybody for their support and help in promoting Speedfreaks. If you have posted info regarding Speedfreaks 4 on any forums, listings or websites that I don’t go on would you please post this statement on them.
This does not affect any other Speedfreaks shows and all other shows are still going ahead.

I had registered and tried to log on but got a message that I was waiting approval. Interestingly enough I received an email yesterday saying that I was approved.
I have duly looged on this morning and sent Mick a nice polite PM asking for an update.
I look forward to getting a reply and to this hopefully all being resolved amicably.
Just to keep you updated. Mick has now been in touch with me and promised me my refund.
If he is good to his word then that will be the end of the matter.
I suggest that anyone else trying to contact Mick should go through the Speedfreak Forum as it seems to have worked for me.
Just to finish off this long standing episode. I got a special delivery this morning and a full refund in cash.
Logging onto Mick’s Speedreak Forum is the way to go. It has been a very frustrating experience but has now been resolved.

I’m owed £720.00 and was told in December i would get it back but up to now nothing has turned up i really hope the guy can sort this out as the speed freaks weekend was one of the best gigs of the year hears hoping
Went on the speedfreaks forum to ask about my refund but neednt of bothered cause the money turned up in the second post yesterday, so looks like he had already sent it,that was good timing,all sorted now,im glad mick came good, he had such a good reputation before all this kicked off im glad i gave him benifit of the doubt and didnt have to pay for legal action to get my money back. anyone else get theirs back this week?
We’ve never received our money back either though been told we would. I thought it was strange how the gig was cancelled only a few days after Cocksparrer were being advertised as playing since I know they would have drawn people in flocks. It would take more than a few days for people to book & get their details together to post them off anyway. I also thought it odd how the website was never really altered with details as how to get to the Mablethorpe site or that the venue had changed at all for people first coming onto the site to book. Anyone new would have thought it was still at Hemsby, which if you were coming from afar might mess up your travel plans if having to pre-book them. Some people only found out the gig was cancelled by word of mouth & it made me wonder if anyone actually turned up not knowing that it had been cancelled! I hope that Mick’s story is genuine, but hope he learns from this that whatever your circumstances, you should keep people informed every step of the way so as not to cause all this upset. If he is genuine about giving money back then give a realistic timescale, since telling one lie leads to another & so on.

Just a quick update I received the 1st installment of my refund today (£400). The 2nd half (£410) should be in the post this week. Its taken 4 months of email, texts, phone calls etc… but I now seem to be getting somewhere. Will update again on the 2nd installment.
hello everybody ive also been in touch with mike through the forum and true to his word has paid me in cash now, it has taken a while and pissed alot of people off including myself but shit happens to us all at sometime and it pays to keep in touch so gossip doesnt happen,lets hope we all learn from this.
Still chasing my refund and all has gone quiet. No trace of Mick and no reply from the email addresses. Anyone got a refund or details then please pass them to me as I will have to go collect this refund if I hear nothing soon.

Received the last installment of my refund on the 21/02/09. All i can say is keep going at him! It has taken me 4 months of constant battle and being on at him on a daily basis. If there is anything else i can do to help you guys just shout.
I’m still waiting but its reassuring that others here have started getting money back!! Have just messaged him on the Speedfreaks forum, so fingers-crossed I should receive my refund soon.
I paid my tickets through Paypal on my credit card in May. After letters, emails & getting nowhere with calls to phone I sent letter to my credit card company beginning of February who then lodged dispute with paypal. They sent dispute to Mick, gave him 14 days then with no response refunded my money – job done by 21 Feb 2009 🙂

just to keep you guys updated. Speedfreak posted this on the forum at 11.26pm on the 08/04/09 – I am now halfway through the refunds, my apologies to anyone who was expecting their refund in the last few weeks, but a few people have decided to take me to court which resulted in me having to deal with these claims first and pay them out instead of the people who were next in line. This is a very difficult situation for myself and the people who are waiting patiently for their refunds, if people want to take me to court that is their decision and right to do so, but if a few more people decide to take this action it will result in me being declared bankrupt and then no one else will be refunded. I am trying to do the right thing and refund everybody, it will take time but everyone will be refunded !.
I just want to clear this matter up, and start plans to relaunch The Speedfreaks Ball in 2010.

Yep. Looks like(unfortunately)the small claims court. If only we were updated and kept abreast of the ongoings. A little respect to us from Mick would be nice.

Well having tracked Mick down today via facebook I have just been informed I will NOT be receiving my refund at all!!! Marvelous news!!
I am the EX I kicked him out 2 xmas’s ago,he stole money from me and owes me and my mum thousands of pounds.
today some wanker came into my house and stole my purse with cash in it and withdrew money from my account.the amount is similar to what mick owes many many ppl.
this is a shitty thing to do. he does not live here any more fuck off and leave me alone. he conned all of us !!
