Bad news- One of the highlights in the gig/festival calendar Speedfreaks Ball is cancelled due to poor ticket sales. Shame as I’d been to all of them and it was always very enjoyable.
The official statement reads…
I am sorry to announce that Speedfreaks 4 has had to be cancelled. Due to slow ticket sales there is no option but to cancel the event. The bank situation and economy has really hit home and the event receipts will fall short of the cost of staging the show by quite a large amount of money which would have put me out of business and possibly bankrupted me, even the late addition of Cock Sparrer to the bill hasn’t brought in enough extra ticket sales to cover the deficit. I left it as long as possible before making this difficult decision to see if there would be an upturn in the situation. But by cancelling the event and refunding ticket monies The Speedfreaks Ball will live to fight another day I would like to thank everybody for their support and help in promoting Speedfreaks. If you have posted info regarding Speedfreaks 4 on any forums, listings or websites that I don’t go on would you please post this statement on them.
This does not affect any other Speedfreaks shows and all other shows are still going ahead.
has anyone received their refund yet?
i posted my receipt straight after the announcement, emailed 2 and a half weeks later to ask when we could expect our refund of £540, received an email from mick stating all refunds would be made by end of november, and we’re still waiting! emails are now being ignored and im very concerned as its for 6 tickets so therefore 6 people waiting on their money from me!
any news would be appreciated if anyone knows anything.
Yes, I received my refund on Saturday 13th December. I’m sure you’ll be receiving yours soon.

“Firstly refunds are still going out.
I understand peoples frustration and anger at the time it is taking, I would feel the same way, were I in their shoes. I am not disappearing nor would I ever do that, but I have now reached the stage where I am into a loss situation, so all refunds still to be paid out are coming out of my day to day job income. I cannot put a timeframe on how long it will take to refund everybody, please be patient.
Thank you to everyone for their support and patience in this difficult time, also thanks to the people who have had their refunds and posted to that effect.

Ok you don’t have the funds to do all the refunds at once (not going to ask where the ticket money has gone, but it wasn’t to pay either venue now was it!!)
Mick also promised me on the phone on the 23/12/08. That my refund went in the post on the 22/12/08. Now nearly two weeks later and allowing for the Christmas post to pass. Absolutely nothing has come forward.
Mick why isn’t your mobile accepting incoming calls and texts. Please can we have a new contact number.
Also I am willing to accept my £810 refund at £90 a week for the next 9 weeks if it makes it slightly easier on your bank balance.
At the moment a partial refund to all those that are waiting would be a gesture of good will to all those concerned.

wotcha everybody,im only waiting for £270 and have been promised this twice now, i should have recieved it before christmas which would have been a bonus due to the bloody price of food and heating but i havnt had a penny,why wasnt he insured and isnt keeping your hard earned money theft,someones cage will be rattled soon if i dont hear from him again within the next 5days ALL THE BEST FOR THE NEW YEAR AND GOOD LUCK WITH THE REFUNDS mr angry
I am awaiting a refund of £300. This is not good enough. If he knew he could not afford to pay everyone, he should have ensured that everyone got paid partly and worked out the rest later! I saw some-one put a post up on a site Mick frequents asking about refund and she was jumpped all over by people who stated where his friends who said that they all got their refunds back and that mick wasn’t a dodgey dealer – nice to see that he refunded all his friends firt though!
I have now emailed him, If i get no reply, I too will be thinking about taking further action – i don’t want to do it but £300 is a lot of money, we should all keep in touch.

wotcha everybody,i still havnt heard from the robbing bastad,ive trawled the net for any infomation and ive tried the phone book for any mick geary in the buckinghamshire area,theres a few there and it looks like i might have to fly from norway where i am working to track the prick down,i am not happy and do hate bull shiters,if anybody knows where he is running so called buisness (scam)from,because he has moved offices now please let me know because it would save me and a few angry mates alot of agro, any info on other web sites would be helpfull,i dont do face book so free access will be perfect to spread the word, MICK IF YOU ARE READING THIS WATCH YOUR BACK BECAUSE YOU HAVE MADE ALOT OF PEOPLE PISSED OFF
I am out of pocket for £360. Despite constant assurances of a refund for the last two months I have received nothing and now all emails are being ignored and no one is answering calls.
I took legal advice and was told you give him a two week period to pay before taking it further. This period has now expired so I will issue legal papers this week and I suggest other do the same.
I am disgusted, especially as the venue appears not to have been booekd so where has all the money gone. I feel as though I have been totally scammed here.
hello again ive been in contact with the bbc show watchdog,i doubt it will go any further but if they get enough complaints they might look into the fraudster,im going to take further action out when i track him down and scum like him will pop up again just because he is a greedy lying thief

Well it took an extraordinary amount of work to find his full name and address details but I finally found them by looking up who owned his web site

As at this morning I have issued legal papers through the small claim court. It cost £35 and some of you should probably do the same.

Glad I found this. Me and my boyfriend are also still awaiting our refund for £200 despite Mick replying to an email in December saying he hopes to send out refunds soon! I’ll be contacting the citizen’s advice bureau and small claims court this week. If anyone wants to email me their name and how much your owed, it might be good to show there are quite a number of us still owed money. [email protected]

Just to keep you all updated. I filed a legal claim against Mick Geary earlier this week and papers have now been sent from Northampton Court.
He now has 14 days to respond but if he fails to do that I am then able to issue a warrant of excution and that will send the bailifs round to his door.
I dont know if Mick Geary is on this site and reading any of this but if he is I would suggest that he pays up pronto and saves himself an awful lot of hassle because I can stop this process at any point. One thing I can promise is that I am going to pursue him the whole way, even if it costs me more than he owes me. That is how cross I am about all this.
I accept that things go wrong sometimes and that maybe he had to cancel, what I do not accept is lies, false promises and now choosing to ignore me.

First off, my apologies for being offline and hard to get hold of.
BT finally connected my broadband this afternoon so I am now back online.
Here is a breakdown of the facts and figures on SF4, as requested by some people:
COSTS:
Hire of camp £40,000
Band Fees £29,050
Security £5,000
PA & engineers £4500
Staff £2070
Promotion & advertising £7400
Band riders & travel £2500
Programme & free CD £2200
Public Liability Insurance £450
TOTAL £93,170
Some of this had to be paid upfront, and some items were non-refundable (promotion, bands air tickets etc)
TICKETS:
Ticket sales needed to break even (based on an averaged ticket price of £90) = 1035
Actual ticket sales as of October 2008: 732 at an averaged price of £90 = £65,880
Shortfall (had the event gone ahead) = £27,290
REFUNDS:
There are currently 97 outstanding ticket refunds.
There is no pecking order as some people have suggested and I am not withholding money from anyone on purpose.
As I posted before I am in a loss situation because of monies paid out for advertising & printing etc so the remaining refunds are coming out of my day job income. People will get their money back but it will take time. People are calling me all sorts of names and threatening to take me to court etc, that is their right but if that happens and I get declared bankrupt then nobody will get any money because it will then be out of my hands. I am working through the remaining refunds as fast as I can.
Also I notice a post has been put up about non collection of mail from the PO Box, the only mail not collected has been 20 odd letters with no postage paid on them, as I am already swallowing a loss with regard to the fees paid to paypal, I won’t pay Royal Mails inflated charges when someone has forgotten to put a stamp on the envelope.
I hope this clears up any misunderstandings about the management of the cancelled event.
As I am now back online, please direct all communication to me through PMs on the Speedfreaks forum as I am unable to keep track of 6 different mailboxes on the other forums. I will answer everybody in turn.

I tried to join the Speedfreaks forum a few days ago but my request is awaiting approval. I guess that is not going to happen then.
For those of you who can get on the forum, if anything important gets posted please do put it up here.
By the way, if any of you decide to follow the legal route you can add all legal costs to your claim against Mick Geary and you can also legally add interest at 8% per annum.
I dont know when you all paid your money but he has had mine since 18th June 08.
At the moment he might feel that he owes 97 x £90 = £8730 but what he probably does not realise is that amount is going up daily.
he does not live at that address so don’t bother sending any mail there.
I heard from one of the band members that they haven’t been paid for the breaking of contract… Hmmmm and I really do/did want to believe him!

Mick Geary is ripping you off and has been ripping people off since day one.
Looking at his figures over the past 3 festivals he must of made a minimum 40K from each one so thats a easy 120K for 3 years work plus his day job, so why can’t he find the 9K loss he is down from this one ?? Where has his money gone ?
He also still hasn’t paid some bands for previous festivals, also through out his time he has bounced cheques on UK Subs, Cockney Rejects, The Beat. I am also informed that for the 2nd festival he never even booked The Selector and lied about their van breaking down.
You will never see your money, as he will go bankrupt very soon I am told.

Some of you people that have received your refunds by registered mail must have Mick Gearys new address. You normally have a sticker on the back of the envelope that says where it has come from.
Why dont you just log onto the speedfreaks forum and pm mick on there? he posted the other day and seems to be answering messages now so you might get an answer, just hope he hasnt read this forum so dont log in as “phil” cause you have been a bit inflamatory mate. i aint got my refund yet but im waiting for the next ball to be announced and ill just ask him to let me and my mates in free, and if he dont do another one than ill persue the money. im only owed 190 quid thats nothing in the grand sceme of things lol! i spend that on fags in a month.

It is the site that his web address is registered to and with no other address to go on it is a starting point for us guys who are trying to track him down and who have had zero response to any communication.
If anyone else wants to put an updated address on this site then please feel free.
Firstly I am not able to take it off, secondly it is the last known address that I have for him and unless I get given an updated address it is this one that I am going to use as my first point of reference when chasing him.
Help us out please. You seem to know that he is not as this address so do you know where he is then.
Let’s not fight amongst ourselves, we should not forget what this is all about. Mick toook a lot of money from a lot of us for an event that never happened and according to some the venue was not even booked. That very much sounds like a scam to me.
Despite many promises I have not received a refund and now emails or not being responded to. I am therefore taking this further.
I also did a lot of research and came up with the same address for Mick. If no one has a different address for him then that is the address that I am going to issue a small claims writ against this week.
If Mick is not at that address then I have to assume that the people at that address know how to forward on the mail.
If your worry is people knocking on the wrong door to get their money back them I am not condoning that at all. It does seem to be a pub though so someone in there must know where Mick is hiding.

Not fighting at all, I just feel cross that I have been stitched up and I am trying to do something constructive about it.
I dont know who Caroline is and why she is so upset about this address being up there. I am not trying to cause trouble, just trying to get my money back.
She says that he knows Mick is not at that address but does not say how she knows that. She also offers no alternative address.
So Caroline, no offence is intended at all but due to a complete lack of any other form of address that is the one I issued my legal papers to. Please feel free to pass on the correct address if you know it.
By the way, a Tracing agent costs £75 and if they dont find Mick there is no charge. I will find him one way or another.
I got taken for over 700 pound so I am not going to take this laying down either.
I did take legal advice and it was my solicitor that came up with that same address so I dont want to pay for a tracing agent as well.
I gave two weeks notice of intention to legally pursue and that notice periods ends next week and I fully intend to follow it through.

This is a massive cockup about the refunds (im owed nearly 400 pound and could really use the dosh!!!!) I had to use savings rather than refund money to pay for my holiday this year so the quicker i get my money the better, but darrens post is way out of order. PS can someone lend me 370 pound?
Going back to Dave99’s comments. How the heck can anything I have written here be inflamatory. I have read the whole string from start to finish and dont think that I have been inflamatory at all.
We all know who is in the wrong over this and it is certianly not us that have lost money.
I also very pleased for you that you spend more money on fags a month than some people have lost but for most of us this was very hard earned cash.
Hi everyone, I am really pleased to fnd this string and to see that I am not the only one that is out of pocket here.
I am owed £360 but have not received a single response to my calls or emails. Like someone said earlier we have accept that sometimes these events do go wrong but what I will not accept is being treated like a fool and expected to go away and not take this further.
I was pleased that address was printed. He might have moved but it gives me somewhere to start because all I had was a PO number and a letter there produced nothing.
I am going to drive to that address this week or next weekend and go ask for him. If he really is not there I will ask for a new address. Someone must know where this guy is, he can not just disappear.
Well surprise, surprise. By special delivery this morning my refund arrived in full, cash, so this time it can’t bounce!

Phil- i pmd the speedfreak admin if there were any registrations outstanding on the forum and they said:
“Hi Dave. Everyone is approved in 48 hours maximum now Mick is back online. There are no outstanding registrations at the moment. I checked the new users, and there is only one Phil that has tried registering recently and he was approved on Wednesday 21st at 8.24pm and hasn’t tried logging in since, so if he wants to post, maybe he should try logging in!. I hope that answers your question”.
