There’s a new internet music only auction site that contacted me. I’ve never been a fan of Ebay, I tried selling on there early on and quickly realised earlythat it cared nothing at all for its customers, abused its monopoly situation and was only interested in milking people for as much money as possible. I know it has its fans but I think that it has done more harm than good to the collecting scene and I’d be delighted to see it disappear.
Will this site work? I’ve had a quick look at it and it was immediately apparent that they’ve very little money behind them. If you’re going to take on Ebay then you need mega bucks. Maybe they hope they’ll get bought out.
I the meantime I shall continue to put what I believe is a fair price on my stock and ignore all the auction sites.
Here’s their communique:
Just launched this past week, The Record Ranch is an auction site that is exclusively music – vinyl, CDs, memorabilia, t-shirts, etc.
The site’s format is similar to eBay, as there are auctions, fixed price listings, and stores. However, selling on The Record Ranch is cheaper than eBay (and GEMM and MusicStack) plus there are no shipping charge and payment method requirements. Also, the category structure at The Record Ranch caters to collectors.
