Vote for Emily Portman

Emily Portman is a Newcastle based folk musician, but none of the wooly jumper rubbish here, her songs are dark and deal with subjects like wife-beating and rape, lyrics that wouldn't be out of place on a Nick Cave album.

One of her songs 'Two Sisters'  has been nominated for best traditional song in the Spiral Earth awards. Please click here to vote for Emily - she deserves to win! You don't need to enter your email address or anything like that.

Now in it's 6th year the Durham Punk Festival is on again and it's the 10th September. The bands include: Rezillos, Angelic Upstarts, UK Subs, Restarts, Anti-Nowhere League, Gold Blade, Crashed Out but this year there's the addition of an acoustic room featuring Ed Tenpole Tudor and TV Smith. If yopu've not been before it's an excellent venue, great sound and cheap beer. Well worth attending. Cheap advance tickets are available for just £22 from Gigbox.

I've just added images to the Punk bubblegum cards in the database and seeing them again made me chuckle. The Clash, Pistols, Generation X etc. are obvious choices for the series, Dr. Feelgood, Jonathan Richman - yes at a push, but Dwight Twilley, The Baby, Gruppo Sportivo - NO! NO! NO! Never in a million years!!!! Whoever compiled this series should be shot.

I have to recommend The Vibrators cards, they're actually Judas Priest. Brilliant!!

There's a lot more information on the set here: http://www.punk77.co.uk/Gumgraphics/bubblegumintro.htm but sadly no picture of the wrapper that is well worth acquiring.
