I was adding the original copy of The Banned ‘Little Girl’ on Can’t Eat Records to the database when I remembered seeing them on Top Of Pops performing the track, so I looked on You Tube and there it was, introduced by Tony Blackburn. They were certainly old then! Click here to watch.

The Fall ‘Sinister Times’ Newspaper

Here’s something I’d not seen before, but remembering hearing about many years ago, it’s a copy of The Fall’s 1987 newspaper Sinister Times. I’m pretty sure this was the only issue and there can’t have been many that survived.

This lovely piece of history will be on the next newsletter.

Web Site Improvements

Following the hopeless unreliability of our last web hosts which resulted in endless outages and the site frequently running very slowly, www.vinylonthe.net has moved to a dedicated server. This means that it’s the only site on that server and already we’ve had 100% uptime and noticed how much faster the pages are loading.

You should also notice how many more items have images attached. Each month I’m getting a few hundred more added with the goal that all will have images in the not too distant future.

Hopefully you’ll notice these improvements and enjoy browsing on the site.

Academy in The UK Birmingham - Sunday

The Damned and Buzzcocks headline plus The Rezillos, The Beat, Mad Sin, GBH, Zounds, Spunge, UK Subs, Deadline, The Grit, Drongos for Europe, New York Alcoholic Anxiety Attack, Dragster, 4ft Fingers, Stevie Nix & The Cute Lepers. Doors open 12 Noon till 2am.

Web Site Detailing UK Punk Through 7″ Covers

There’s a new web site Hitsville UK giving a detailed review of the development of UK punk and graphic design in the wider regions of the UK, is finally online. The site, based on successful exhibitions in Southampton and London during 2007, includes a range of free download material, punk links, and an interactive matrix displaying UK punk seven inch single sleeves by region between the years 1976 to 1984. It also details design elements and plays short sound samples of each record. To explore, go to:-

The website pays tribute to the vast range of seven inch singles which came under the banner of ‘punk’ between 1976 and 1984. It aims to show new perspectives on the development of graphic styles and regional variations in punk identity away from the major metropolitan centres, and beyond the ‘key’ designers of the period who feature in a range of art and design histories.

Television Personalities ‘The Good Anarchist’

Those of you that know me will know that I’m a huge fan of the Television Personalities. They’ve a new 7″ only single out on Elefant Records that’s, well different from previous TVPs records, but a fine effort nevertheless. There’s a video for it here.

Damned Posters

Got a few nice Damned original posters, some promo, some sold at gigs, some commercially available and some gig posters.

The pick of the bunch is this mega rare screen printed ‘Love Song’ promo poster. This very rarely turns up.

They’ll all be on the next newsletter.

Got some other interesting Damned memorabilia as well which I’ll be filtering onto the database in due course.
