Crawling Chaos were more experimental but def with punk attitude: Kraut Punk?
Discharge: Not to be confused with the Stoke band of the same name.
Flesh were more experimental and incl Andrew McKenzie later of Hafler Trio.
King Crabs incl Jimmy Nail.
Nod: Punk poet.
Nothing incl members of Crawling Chaos.
Wavis O’Shave was an eccentric poet / singer. Tho not strictly Punk, he def had Punk attitude.
Soviet France (later Zoviet France) started as a Punk band.

The Star & Shadow Cinema in Newcastle-upon-Tyne is holding an evening of post-punk sounds 8pm until midnight on Saturday 25th February, at a very reasonable £3.

An old friend of mine Simon McKay hosts a weekly radio show on Break London playing 1970s British punk and post punk peppered with some British and Jamaican reggae from the same era.  Here’s a link to his playlist page on Eccentric Sleeve Notes, which now includes a podcast option for the last two shows.  The show for broadcast on 27 December is there and it’s a best of what has been featured this year.  It includes tracks by Clash, Buzzcocks, Nips, Cure, Neon, Glaxo Babies and Punishment of Luxury.

Devilish Presley, my favourite tongue-in-cheek goth-rock band are back with a new video for I Created A Monster and as always with their videos it’s hugely entertaining.

Adam Ant returns to Newcastle 02 Academy on Tuesday December 13th. I didn’t go to his last show, but everyone I know who did said it was brilliant, didn’t hear one disenting voice.

Andvinyly come up with the genius idea of pressing your ashes into records. You can even record your own personal message on the vinyl. How cool would it be to have a Ramones track playing at your funeral and then a message from you at the end saying “so long suckers, now party”. That’s how I’m gonna go!

You can even have up to 30 pressed to distribute via your friends and relatives!

AndVinyly, the creation of English record label boss Jason Leach, offers the service for around $3500 so you can “live on from beyond the groove!”

Your ashes, or ashes of parts of you, are pressed into as many as 30 records, a process that Mr Leach said was not complicated.

Customers can supply audio, or choose music from the website’s ‘Raveyard’, and then let their loved ones listen to a last message spinning around and around. Forever.

While all this might sound a bit on the nose, Mr Leachsaid the response had been “huge”.

The inspiration came from “a desire to be immortal coupled with sadness at the decline in record sales and music you can touch back”.

The nostalgia of vinyl is part of the appeal. It’s certainly not something you can do with an iPod.

Mr Leach came up with the idea after watching a TV program that showed an American having his ashes put into fireworks, which prompted him to wonder how he’d like to be remembered.

“It’s a bit more interesting than being in a pot on a shelf,” he told Wired UK.

A vinyl memorial was also more practical than scattering ashes, Mr Leach said. For example, there’s no danger of a change in the wind sending the ash back over mourners, something that happened to his family at his grandfather’s send-off.

To complete the package, the website offers unique artwork for the ‘Rest In Vinyl’ album sleeve. National Portrait Gallery artist James Hague can paint your portrait for the cover, with your ashes mixed into the paint.

Those wanting to share their memory with the world can even distribute the album through vinyl stores internationally.

The service is also available for pets.

This Huffington Post article has the decline of the record store in the Top 10 dying industries. This article is about America, but 80% of record shops shutting in the last decade is a horrible statistic.

I’m sure we’ll see even more shops disappear soon. In many regions they’re already extinct.

A most excellent show this week from The Cravats enigmatic front man The Shend. Good to hear him including more punk after a rather (cough) prog (cough) show last week. Indeed he opened the show with the quote not enough punk on The Spinning Man?  The internet is probably b-u-z-z-i-n-g with online campaigns and petitions for more punk on his show and rightly so.

Thursday 9th September: Guests Steve Ignorant (Crass) and Pete (Paranoid Visions) A busy show this week and a bit of an anarchist punk special. In the first half of the show there will be a live interview with Steve Ignorant who is in Manchester on 1st October as part of his “Last Supper: Crass Songs 1977-1984″ tour. We’ll also be playing tracks from the just re-issued/ remastered version of Crass’ Feeding Of The Five Thousand (The Crassical Collection). In the second half of the show we’ll be chatting live to Peter from Dublin based Paranoid Visions (who are supporting Steve on his Manchester date) and playing tracks from “Black Operations In The Red Mist” released last month on Overground Records. If you miss the show we’ll put a podcast of the interviews (minus music) out soon after!
