I’ve just been sent a link to the new Devilish Presley video The Beast Must Die which is a track from their forthcoming album.

I’ve always been a fan, but this track and the Big Cheese freebie CD I Created A Monster are light years better than what they’ve done before. The video is the dog’s bollocks as well.

There’s a new book called Our Generation that will interest many of you, especially if you’re interested in the scene from the Sheffield era. Read on…

From the pre-Punk days all the way through Punk’s summer of hate – 1977 and beyond, the story takes in the many classic gigs, the clothes worn and searches for identity, the groups formed and broken, the fans, the records, the violence and laughs along with many exclusive photos, flyers, tickets and memorabilia. It is a story of euphoric excitement and life changing experiences told from a time when being young and different was often a dangerous past time.

I’ve acquired a large collection of industrial and gothic magazines and fanzines, all in excellent or mint condition. None of them are very early, but they’re all better ones from the genres and there’s a lot of them, including:

Industrial Nation, Bats and Red Velvet, Hard Wired, Goth Nation, Interference, Vampire Freaks, Naked Truth, Side Line, Tomb Raver and a load of one-offs, plus bits and pieces of memorabilia.

What’s nice about this collection is that all the CDs that came with the mags are still with them.

Pete Chambers 2-Tone book

2-TONE-2 is Pete Chamber’s fifth book in as many years. While the The Specials have were dusting off their tonic suits and pork-pie hats, ready for their triumphant return at the Isle of Wight’s Bestival in September. Coventry’s own music historian Pete Chambers has been busy, keeping the rude boys history up to date all ready for next years 30th. Anniversary of the 2-Tone record label. His new book 2-Tone-2 covers some of the news stories involving the Specials and the Selecter, comments on the 30th Anniversary from some of the genres key players.

 The book also promises many rare unseen photographs of our chequered ska heroes. 2-Tone-2′s foreword is written by Special guitarist and one of the bands founding members Lynval Golding. “One person I would like to thank, more than anyone else is Pete Chambers” reveals Lynval, “who has done everything to keep the band in the public eye. He’s made sure we get played on the radio, more than any other guy; he’s been keeping us alive through the media. Pete’s a Coventry kid, and knows these places better than anyone, there’s stuff in this book you won’t see anywhere else”.
