Scotland World Cup Song (well…)

A friend who is a Scottish football fan sent me a link to this tune Anything But ’66 Again by some chancers called The Sussex Highlanders. It’s an anti-English world cup campaign song from a Scottish perspective. It’s actually quite funny, but coming from that third world footballing nation it’s a bit rich.

If you’re so inclined it’s available for the price of a deep fried Mars bar from iTunes.

Bad Religion free album

Bad Religion are offering a free live download album to celebrate their 30th anniversary from their website. The band describe it as: a free “thank you” to the loyal fans who’ve been with us through all the sweat and mayhem.

Don’t forget that Bad Religion play this years Rebellion festival. They’re the closing act on the Sunday night.

Mad Sin new video

Mad Sin have an excellent new video out now for Cursed. If you’ve not caught the band live it really is a must see experience.

They’re playing at this year’s Durham Punk Festival on Saturday 11th September along with The Grit, Buzzcocks, Gold Blade, UK Subs, Angelic Upstarts etc.

The TV Smith fanzine TV Times has returned after a very long break. Originally created around the time of the demise of The Adverts, it’s original author Dave Thompson is back editing it.

Presents For Sally 7″

A customer has asked me to mention his band, they’re called Presents For Sally and they have a 7″ out.

My knowledge of current bands is pretty poor, but they remind me of Slowdive, Chapterhouse or Ride.

Bristol Rock describe it as: Their fuzzy indie-noir immediately brings to mind shoegaze bands from the ’90′s such as Ride, Galaxie 500 and FUXA – bands who were bridging the gap between post-Smiths structured pop and dreamy drone-rock. I can’t disagree with that, so if that’s priced your interest click on the above link and listen to their track on MySpace.

There’s an interesting article about Crass on the Guardian website written by John Robb with a lively debate beneath, including some comments by one clueless berk who thinks that Dial House is a posh middle calls house. No heating, no hot water, subsidence etc., hardly posh.

Control on Gary Bushell’s podcast

Easily the best of the new crop of the UK streetpunk bands Control were featured on Gary Bushell’s latest podcast radio show. They haven’t released anything yet but I’ve heard the album and it’s fantastic.

Someone Is Spreading Lies About the Adicts

One idiot puts up a post on the internet about Monkey from The Adicts dying of cancer and suddenly it has spread around the net like gospel and everyone is talking about it. Well there’s not a shed of truth in it and I hope they catch the cretin that made this lie up, it’s not remotely funny.

So their UK tour is DEFINITELY on. I’m looking forward to seeing them at the Durham Punk Festival on 13th September but you can also see them at Ipswich Corn Exchange on 11th Sept, London Islington Academy 12th Sept, and Birmingham Academy 2 on the 14th.

I can honestly say they are the only band that I’ve seen that are better know than they were in the 80s. Highly recommended.
